Robbie Mustoe believes Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes was far from his best against Everton.
After City’s 2-0 win against Sean Dyche’s side on Saturday, Craig Burley went as far as to claim that he had yet to see the £53 million (Sky Sports) have a single good game at the Etihad Stadium.
In the 57th minute of the clash, the Portuguese international was taken off by Pep Guardiola to introduce Kevin De Bruyne into the proceedings.
Robbie Mustoe left unimpressed by ‘quiet’ Matheus Nunes after Manchester City beat Everton
The 25-year-old partnered Julian Alvarez as one of his side’s advanced midfielders against the Toffees.
Despite Phil Foden’s breathtaking display against Brentford, the former Sporting CP talisman was preferred over him by Pep Guardiola as one of his creative midfielders.
However, after Manchester City got over the line against Everton, Robbie Mustoe was anything but impressed with how Matheus Nunes fared.

“Matheus Nunes was a little quiet. I like him, new signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, didn’t do a ton”, he said on NBC Sports’ The 2 Robbies Podcast.
Matheus Nunes had his worst game in sky blue
It’s hard to disagree with Robbie Mustoe as Matheus Nunes endured quite a poor outing against Everton.
One aspect where Nunes particularly struggled was retaining possession, which is one of the most important qualities one must possess while playing for a Guardiola side.
The ex-Wolves midfielder lost the ball on various occasions, ceding possession to an Everton side that had been set up to hit City on the break.
Even in the attacking phases of the pitch, Matheus Nunes had little to no impact on proceedings.
When Nunes tried to utilise his devastating dribbling ability, he was often tackled and his decision to be individualistic simply failed to pay off on numerous instances.
It’s fair to say that not much worked out in the Rio de Janeiro-born midfielder’s favour against Everton in what was in his worst game in a Manchester City shirt, in our view.
