Alan Shearer has named Phil Foden in his Premier League Team of the Week after Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Saturday.

The Englishman was the only City player who made the cut in the popular pundit’s side from the weekend’s action.

However, Alan Shearer was clearly impressed by Manchester City attacker Phil Foden, who shone against Nottingham Forest.

Branded as ‘unreal’ by Rio Ferdinand, the Englishman opened the scoring with a sweetly-struck half-volley to cap off a sumptuous bit of football from his boyhood club.

Aside from the goal as well, Foden’s all-round display was majestic, with his passing in the final third and control of the game across all phases was a sight to behold.

Alan Shearer certainly agrees as he highlighted the workrate displayed by Phil Foden to ensure that a 10-man Manchester City maintain their winning start to the season against Nottingham Forest.

“Took his goal superbly and put in a big shift after Man City were reduced to 10 men”, he briefly said.

The 23-year-old was named in the team alongside the likes of Emiliano Martinez, Kieran Trippier, James Tarkowski, Jonny Evans, Sven Botman, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Yves Bissouma, Kaoru Mitoma, Anthony Gordon, and Son Heung-min.

Phil Foden has started the season in bright fashion

As the decorated technician drew praise from Alan Shearer as Manchester City defeated Nottingham Forest, he continued his sparkling start to the 2023/2024 campaign.

In Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, the five-time Premier League winner has been playing in a more central role, where he has thrived.

What has been intriguing to witness is how Foden seamlessly controls the game across every phase of the pitch, whilst also being a threat in the final third.

With three assists and a goal in the league, one can expect Phil Foden to build on this start by potentially having his finest season in his career.
