Gary Lineker has now shared what Manchester City No.9 Erling Haaland said to him at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The 62-year-old made the comments when speaking to Micah Richards on The Rest Is Football podcast.

So, what did Erling Haaland say to Gary Lineker? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the BBC Match of the Day host revealed that he and the Norway international shared a nice moment together, where they simply stood to chat and appreciate the 23-year-old’s finishing.

Lineker said: “It’s quite interesting. During the Ballon d’Or when I gave him the award (Gerd Müller Trophy) they showed all of the goals that Haaland scored and put them all together in a montage.

“We were standing there just watching them… there was another one where he said to me, this is my favourite, look at this one, look at this one.

“It was the kind of scissor kick one. It went on and there was a mutual appreciation of his finishing. We were just basically chatting through all of his goals and that enthusiasm for a finisher, you could see he has that absolute drive to score and he knows how to do it. He would say, watch my movement here. It would have been nice to have a little microphone to record that between us. What a goalscorer he is.”

Manchester City No.9 Erling Haaland was unfortunate at the Ballon d’Or

Haaland remarkably scored 52 goals in 53 appearances last season, although the £51.5m man still lost out on the Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi – a decision some did not agree with, including us.

Nevertheless, the Norwegian himself is relaxed about the situation and confident of winning the Ballon d’Or in future, so hopefully he uses this year’s snub as motivation to perform even better.

Whether Haaland wins it or not, Pep Guardiola has a truly special footballer on his hands, one who simply loves to score goals – as his wholesome chat with Lineker proved.
