Real Madrid have been in contact with Manchester City target Alphonso Davies as doubts over the Canadian’s future at Bayern Munich intensify.

That is according to Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Alphonso Davies? Let’s take a look…

Alphonso Davies update

Well, it was Graeme Bailey who first revealed that Manchester City are plotting a move for the Bayern Munich No.19 as Pep Guardiola attempts to bring a natural left-back to the Etihad Stadium.

Now, however – according to Plettenburg – Real Madrid are ramping up their pursuit of Davies.

It is said that the Spanish giants are in regular contact with the Canada international’s agent, and actually asked the defender not to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich.

Davies currently has a deal running until June 2025 at the Allianz Arena – and talks over a new contract were stalling regardless of Real Madrid’s input.

Plettenburg adds that the 23-year-old feels comfortable in Germany, but a summer departure is possible.

Davies has made 23 appearances for Bayern Munich so far this season, providing three assists.

Manchester City must be alert

Nowadays, quality left-backs are hard to find.

Only the likes of Andrew Robertson, Theo Hernandez and Davies can arguably be placed in the world class bracket as far as left-backs go.

Of those three, Davies is currently the most realistic signing given his contract situation, so Manchester City must stay alert.

If Real Madrid end up signing the Buduburam-born defender, it could be years until Manchester City find another elite left-back.

A move for Davies would also allow Josko Gvardiol to move back into his natural position in the centre of defence – so far this season, the Croatian has struggled on the left.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Real Madrid and Manchester City look set to fight it out for the €100m-rated (£86m) Bayern Munich man.
