Real Madrid make stance on Rodrygo exit very clear, Man City know what they have to do now

Manchester City now know what they have to do to sign Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

Man City were thought to be done in this summer’s transfer market having completed the signing of James Trafford; however, Tottenham’s interest in Savinho has changed that stance.

The North London club have been told by City that Savinho is not for sale. But should a bid arrive at the Etihad Stadium for the winger that is too good to turn down, Pep Guardiola will ask for Rodrygo to replace the 21-year-old.

Real Madrid have now made their stance on selling the 24-year-old clear, as it becomes apparent that the La Liga giants will not make it easy for Man City to sign the Brazilian.

Real Madrid want £104m to sell Rodrygo

Man City have started talks with Rodrygo to see if a deal can be done with the Manchester club’s interest in the winger deemed “serious” by Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert has stated that City hope to negotiate a deal that will see them pay less than the €100m (£86m) being requested by Real Madrid, but that is unlikely to happen, according to reports in Spain.

Diario AS journalist Ruben Martin states that the La Liga giants could ask for up to €120m (£104m) for Rodrygo and that the Spanish side are in no hurry to sell the Brazilian, who has a contract at the Bernabeu until 2028.

Rodrygo is keen to work with Guardiola and is believed to be open to moving to Manchester; however, with the hierarchy in Madrid taking this stance, it may require the 24-year-old to force a move.

It also depends on the situation of Savinho, as if the winger remains at Man City, the English giants are unlikely to make a move for Rodrygo.

Rodrygo’s record vs Man City

Man City and Real Madrid have become European rivals in recent years, as the two clubs have met in the Champions League nearly every year since the 2019/20 campaign.

As a result, Rodrygo has faced the Manchester club a total of nine times, winning four, drawing two, and losing the remaining three.

The Brazilian has a good record against City, producing four goals and two assists, with the 24-year-old’s performance in the second leg of the 2022 Champions League semi-final standing out to every fan of the English club.

Man City fans know exactly what they are getting if their club signs Rodrygo over the coming week, and having been burned by the Brazilian in the past, they will also be happy to not have to face the winger for some time.
