Real Madrid are now among the highest bidders to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City – along with Newcastle.

That is according to TuttoJuve.

So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 27-year-old seems very likely to leave the Etihad Stadium in January.

Phillips has already admitted that he wants more minutes – and ESPN believe he is genuinely considering his future at Manchester City.

That should come as no surprise – the Manchester City No.4 has only made two Premier League starts under Pep Guardiola since his £45m move from Leeds United in July 2022.

Now – in a development that does come as something of a surprise – Real Madrid are one of the highest bidders for Phillips.

TuttoJuve believe the Spanish giants and Newcastle are leading the chase to sign the England international, while Juventus are also keen on his signature.

The Italian news outlet add that Manchester City are not too concerned about where Phillips ends up, and are happy to sell him to the highest bidder.

Kalvin Phillips bidding war would be ideal for Manchester City

Given the circumstances, nobody would expect Manchester City to recoup anything close to the £45m spent on Phillips last year.

However, a bidding war would be perfect for the treble winners, and could actually help them get a lot closer to that figure – even a sum of £30m would be decent business.

Phillips seems to have maintained his reputation as a top midfielder despite a lack of action at Manchester City, presumably due to Gareth Southgate continuing to select him for England.

Real Madrid do not just bid for anybody, so the Yorkshire-born playmaker is clearly valued across Europe.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as it could be Madrid or Tyneside for Phillips in January.
