Real Madrid targeting bargain deal for Man City star but it’s actually a blessing in disguise for Pep

After Real Madrid knocked Man City out of the Champions League this season, it’s the Galacticos who could actually come to the rescue for City in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City find themselves playing for an FA Cup and a 4th place finish in the Premier League table. Right now, Pep Guardiola’s side are on track to at least challenge for both of those things; currently sitting 5h in the table and with an FA Cup semi final clash booked with Nottingham Forest later in April.

Several weeks ago now, Real Madrid knocked Man City out of the Champions League with Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick in the reverse fixture at the Bernabeu to hand City their fate in this season’s competition.

It was a bitter blow and it could even be the last time that we see Man City in the competition for some time, depending on how they fare this season. But Real Madrid’s transfer plans for the summer could actually come to City’s aid.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is a target for a number of teams. Man City want to sign Wirtz but so too do Real Madrid, and a number of other top flight European teams, with Leverkusen having already valued the attacking midfielder at around the £100million mark.

Real Madrid now linked with Bernardo Silva at Man City

Somewhat out of the blue, reports in Spain are now claiming that Real Madrid are considering a shock swoop for Bernardo Silva at Man City. Real Madrid Confidential report that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are keeping tabs on a number of no.10s including Wirtz and Man United’s Bruno Fernandes, and now Silva too.

The report predicts that could land Silva for ‘a small fee this summer’, and that Silva’s staying at the Etihad is ‘of his own volition’. Speaking recently though, Silva suggested he was keen to stay at Man City ahead of his contract expiring in the summer of 2026.

Given his contract situation, the club may feel differently about Silva’s future and they might prefer a sale in this upcoming summer transfer window, in a bid to avoid losing Silva on a free transfer in a year’s time.

Real Madrid could leave Man City in the clear to sign Florian Wirtz

Real Madrid love a bargain, so don’t expect them to go splashing the cash on multiple players this summer, and especially not on multiple players in the same position. For Ancelotti, it might be a case of Fernandes, or Wirtz, or Siva.

And Real Madrid poaching Silva could actually be a blessing in disguise for Man City who’d who then face one less obstacle in signing Wirtz. City would also be opening up a space in the wage bill if Silva left whilst at the same time getting at least some money back for the player, which could be put towards a Wirtz deal.

Then if the likes of Kevin De Bruyne leaves Man City too, it opens up even more space on the wage bill and a space in the XI for Wirtz to come in, and become part of this new-look Man City side that we’re all expecting.
