Cole Palmer has now been speaking about his decision to leave Manchester City for Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
The England Under-21 international spoke to Chelsea’s official website about his move to west London.
So, what did Cole Palmer say about leaving Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the 21-year-old left Manchester City to join Chelsea in a £42.5m deal.
It seemed to be a strange development at the time, as Palmer had only just scored for Manchester City in the FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, as well as the UEFA Super Cup win over Sevilla.
However, the move materialised, and the City Football Academy graduate has since shone under Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer has scored three goals – while also providing two assists – in his last four Premier League appearances.
Speaking about his decision to leave Manchester City, the Chelsea No.20 said: “I’m really enjoying it at Chelsea every day, on and off the pitch. It was a big change for me and my family to come here, but opportunities like this don’t come around often, so I’m glad it’s paying off at this moment in time.”
Nobody can knock Manchester City for selling Cole Palmer
Without a doubt, some sections of the media will now start to criticise Manchester City for selling Palmer.
However – as admitted by Juanma Lillo – the forward himself wanted to leave.
Guardiola’s assistant was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: “This is the reality. It’s very difficult to go against a player’s wishes. When a player wants to go, it is very difficult to go against that.”
Guardiola has often reiterated his policy of not wanting to keep anyone at Manchester City against their will, and it would have surely created a difficult situation had the Spaniard denied Palmer an exit so late in the transfer window.

Interestingly, it has been said that the 52-year-old was also happy to let the £75,000-a-week attacker go due to the emergence of Oscar Bobb from the City Football Academy.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, nobody can really criticise Manchester City for selling Palmer – the situation was seemingly out of Guardiola’s hands.
