England manager Gareth Southgate was seriously impressed by Phil Foden, who ran the show in his side’s 3-1 win against Scotland.
Speaking to Channel 4 after the contest, the Three Lions boss was quizzed about the Manchester City attacker’s performance.
It’s safe to say that Gareth Southgate liked what he saw from Phil Foden as England took Scotland to the cleaners on Tuesday night.
Gareth Southgate raves about ‘really good’ Phil Foden after England beat Scotland
Branded as an ‘incredible player’ by Jordan Henderson, the 23-year-old opened the scoring for his country after getting on the end of a peach of a delivery from Kyle Walker.
Aside from the goal, Foden turned heads with his impeccable technical ability, clever passing and sublime combination play with Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
After England left Hampden Park with a statement victory against Scotland, Gareth Southgate gave his feedback on the Phil Foden show.

“Pleased for him as much as anything. I got a lot of questions about him this week and he’s scored and I thought his performance was really good. A really good job without the ball as well. Sometimes that’s overlooked”, he said in the aftermath of the clash.
The Three Lions need Phil Foden more than they think
Considering Phil Foden is often in and out of the England side, he showcased against Scotland once again why he must be a regular starter in his side.
As exceptional as the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice are, the English still lack a player who is as comfortable as the treble-winner in deeper areas as well as tight spaces.
Foden’s inclusion allows England to control games much more and progress the ball from the first two phases of the pitch.
Additionally, the decorated midfielder’s ball-carrying ability and dribbling also pushes any side forward seamlessly, which makes his inclusion key.
