Report: ‘Excellent’ 21 y/o Man City gem is now actually considering PL move, Pep adores him

It has been reported that Wolves are interesting in signing Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle on a permanent basis this summer.

This comes from journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon, after the 21-year-old claimed a month ago that he was open to go on loan once again after his fruitful spell at Sheffield United last season.

However, it seems like Wolves could offer Tommy Doyle the chance to leave Manchester City for good in order to potentially become a regular starter in the Premier League.

Wolves keen on Tommy Doyle transfer from Manchester City

Alongside James McAtee, the Sky Blues academy product, branded as ‘excellent’ by ex-Cardiff boss Steve Morison via MEN made a huge impression in the Championship, playing a central role in the side’s promotion to the Premier League.

However, a chance to become a regular first-team player at City still looks unlikely for the highly-rated midfielder, with more established options like Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Phil Foden and Kalvin Phillips ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, it has been reported that while Wolves are interested in sealing a permanent move for Tommy Doyle, he would only consider a departure from Manchester City if he is assured of his chances of starting regularly.

Doyle would be best-placed to leave his boyhood club

While the youngster was lauded by Pep Guardiola for his brilliant display as a holding midfielder against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup (via MEN) in 2020, he has been nowhere closer to contending for a starting spot at City.

Despite Tommy Doyle being happy to go on another loan next season, it would be best for his career if he left Manchester City to become a regular starter elsewhere, such as at Wolves.

Ultimately, the talent pool in midfield at the Etihad Stadium is simply far too established for a raw, young talent to come in and demand regular minutes.

Unless Doyle is happy to merely be a squad player at Manchester City, it would be advisable if he simply joined another club this summer.
