Manchester City could wait until the summer to make a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

The Citizens are not expected to be busy this month, with the club having shown in recent years that they prefer to do business in the summer.

Youngster Claudio Echeverri is due to be announced as a new signing very soon, but the Argentine starlet will be staying on loan at River Plate for the time being, just like Julian Alvarez did when he first signed.

Regarding new additions for the first-team though, Pep is likely to stick with his current crop.

Joshua Kimmich has been loosely linked with City for a few months now, and last night an interesting new claim was made about the Germany international…

The Daily Star reported on the Kimmich to Manchester City links last night.

They claim there is a definite interest from City in the 28-year-old, whom Pep Guardiola worked with during his time in Bavaria.

The City boss is apparently a huge admirer of Kimmich, who can play as a full-back or in midfield.

City won’t move now, but it is suggested that a swoop could be made in the summer when Kimmich’s market value will be lower. Apparently, it is expected he would cost around £25 million. At the moment, he’s worth about double that.

In the summer, Kimmich will only have a year left on his contract, meaning realistically Bayern will need to at least listen to offers for the star.

From next season, there is a high chance City will not have Kalvin Phillips in the squad. The England international is set to leave on loan this month, and there’s a good chance he’ll depart permanently in the summer.

Kimmich for £25m a total bargain

Hopefully, City do go after Bayern maestro Kimmich in the summer, with £25 million a very tantalising price tag indeed.

Here we are talking about a player who has been one of Bayern’s key stars for many years and someone who’s been instrumental in their domination of the Bundesliga for the past decade or so.

Jose Mourinho has said of him previously ‘I think he’s phenomenal – absolutely phenomenal player’, while Lothar Mattheus said he was ‘one of the most important players in German football’ tipping him to become captain of the national team (via bundesliga.com)

As someone capable of playing right-back and in the middle, Kimmich feels like an absolutely perfect fit for City, with the likes of John Stones, Rico Lewis and Joao Cancelo having all played a hybrid role under Pep.
