A claim has been made that Bernardo Silva could end up staying at Manchester City, as the club doubt whether PSG will actually shell out the fee to sign him.

This comes from The Athletic journalist Sam Lee, with a recent report claiming that Pep Guardiola’s men aim to sell the £43 million (BBC Sport) man for £75 million.

While it has seemed that a club like PSG would inevitably sign Bernardo Silva, there is a glimmer of hope that he stays put at Manchester City.

PSG could be unwilling to pay fee for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva

For the last three summers, the Portuguese attacker has looked like he was on the verge of an exit from the Etihad Stadium.

However, other cash-strung clubs in Europe, especially after the pandemic have struggled to fund a deal to sign the 28-year-old, branded as ‘unique’ by Pep Guardiola as per the club’s official website.

A similar case could well unfold in the summer of 2023, as it has been claimed that there are doubts at Manchester City whether PSG even pay the desired fee to wrap up a transfer for Bernardo Silva.

As a result, the chances of the treble-winner staying put in the blue side of Manchester have not been ruled out yet.

A huge blessing for Manchester City if he ends up staying

With Fabrizio Romano reporting on Wednesday that Ilkay Gundogan is likely to now join Barcelona, Manchester City should hope and pray that PSG are unable to fund the addition of Bernardo Silva.

The five-time Premier League winner is one of the best midfielders in the world and to lose someone of his quality that also understands the ins and outs of Pep Guardiola’s system in the same summer as the German would be a blow.

In general as well, Bernardo Silva is an incredibly multifaceted footballer, capable of operating at an elite level both in midfield and on the wing, whilst being a special big-game player, which is why his potential stay would be a massive boost for the club.
