It has been reported that Phil Foden is likely to play in central midfield for Manchester City next season.
This comes from the Daily Mail’s ever-credible journalist Jack Gaughan, soon after Pep Guardiola’s side won the treble by beating Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday night.
It seems like Manchester City have already drawn up plans about the following campaign, with Phil Foden set to move into midfield.
Phil Foden set to play in midfield next season
While Pep Guardiola has largely deployed the 23-year-old, branded as a ‘genius’ by the Athletic on the wings, he has begun to slowly but surely trust him as a midfielder this season.
As was the case in the Champions League final after Kevin De Bruyne’s unfortunate injury, the Englishman, branded as an ‘incredible player’ by Jordan Henderson was brought on to occupy the vacant No.10 position in the club’s most significant game in years.
Now, it has been claimed that Manchester City sporting director is on the lookout for new wingers, with Phil Foden primed to play in midfield next season.

It seems like the plan in place is for the recently-crowned treble winner to now permanently play in his natural position.
Phil Foden could now hit new heights
While Phil Foden has done incredibly well since breaking through at Manchester City in a number of positions, it has been a shame that he is yet to have been given a run of games in midfield.
However, when the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are any team’s disposal, most midfielders in the world would struggle to displace such legends of the game.
But next season, Foden could reach an unseen level in his game, as he has always looked like the most complete version of himself as a No.10 or a No.10.
All Phil Foden requires is enough starts and Pep Guardiola’s advice and he has the potential to cement his presence as one of the outright best midfielders in the world.
