Report: Man City now open to selling player Pep called ‘intelligent’, he wants to stay

It has been reported that Manchester City are open to sanctioning a transfer for Kalvin Phillips in the summer.

This comes from the Daily Mail, after the £45 million (Sky Sports) won the elusive treble on Saturday night after City beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

However, it seems like Manchester City remain open to part ways with Kalvin Phillips, instead of giving him another season to prove his worth.

Manchester City open to Kalvin Phillips transfer exit this summer

Despite being branded as an ‘intelligent player’ by Pep Guardiola himself, the 27-year-old has found it a tall task to get game time, due to injury and a clear lack of trust from his manager.

And in all fairness, every time Phillips has made a late cameo, he has looked miles off his best, making a number of mistakes in his stints on the pitch.

As a result, it has been reported that Manchester City will ‘listen to offers’ for Kalvin Phillips if suitors come calling this summer.

Interestingly, however, the England international is keen on staying and proving himself at Pep Guardiola’s side.

Not the best look for Phillips

If indeed Manchester City are prepared to sell Kalvin Phillips after just a single season, that does not reflect well on the player whatsoever.

After all, the Sky Blues are known to be patient with their new signings and give them time to adapt to the Pep Guardiola way.

In the cases of Jack Grealish, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez, the patience has bore fruit on each occasion.

If the treble winners do indeed end up trying to sell Phillips, that simply means they do not believe he has the potential to ever look the part for them.

Whether that be due to Kalvin Phillips’ ceiling as a player or his work ethic, something must have gone seriously wrong behind-the-scenes for Pep Guardiola and Co. to have arrived to such a conclusion this early into his time at the club.
