It has been reported that Manchester City are interested in signing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes this summer.

This comes from The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, after it was claimed on Wednesday that they had their sights set on a move for Eberechi Eze.

Now, it seems like Matheus Nunes has caught the eye of those at Manchester City as a potential incoming.

David Ornstein: Manchester City are keen on Matheus Nunes transfer

Branded as ‘unstoppable’ by journalist Zach Lowy, the £38 million (Guardian) man has had a topsy-turvy time at the Molineux Stadium.

However, against both Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion this season, the Portuguese international has reminded many of why he is as highly-rated as he is.

Now, it has been revealed that Manchester City are ‘exploring’ a deal to sign Matheus Nunes before the transfer window shuts.

With Kevin De Bruyne set to be sidelined through injury for about half the season, the plan at the Etihad Stadium is to cover for his absence with a number of options in midfield.

As a result, City seemed to have turned to the 24-year-old now.

The treble-winners should dump Matheus Nunes pursuit & focus on Eberechi Eze move

As quality a midfielder as Matheus Nunes is, Manchester City are already well-stocked in the department of players of his profile.

Both Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic are adept at playing in deep midfield roles alongside Rodri, controlling matches and helping the team to recycle possession.

On the other hand, apart from Phil Foden, the Sky Blues lack another creative midfielder in their ranks after Kevin De Bruyne’s injury as well as Ilkay Gundogan’s exit.

Eberechi Eze, on the other would fit the bill and is also capable of covering plenty of ground.

With the England international’s output likely to improve at the Etihad Stadium as well, City would much rather direct their energy on his arrival.
