It has been reported that some of the Manchester United staff internally believe that the club could have lost Kobbie Mainoo to Manchester City.
This comes from the Telegraph, as the Sky Blues continue to prove that they have one of the best academies in the country at their disposal.
So much so that even those within the Manchester United camp believe that Kobbie Mainoo could well have ended up at Manchester City.
Manchester United staff admit Kobbie Mainoo could have been set for Manchester City transfer
The summer transfer window of 2023 is a clear indicator of the fact that teams in Europe are aware of the conveyor belt of talent that the CFA produce year in, year out.
After all, James Trafford has been signed by Burnley for a sizable £14 million fee, while it was claimed on Monday that Carlos Borges is on the verge of joining West Ham United, and a report also revealed that Belgian side K.V.C Westerlo are on the brink of landing Adedire Mebude.
Now, it has also been reported that Kobbie Mainoo is exactly the kind of talent that would have left Old Trafford in order to jump ship to Manchester City ‘a few years ago’, according to some staff members at Manchester United.

However, with the youth setup in the red side of Manchester having improved significantly, the prospect of such a move transpiring now is next to impossible.
A huge compliment to Manchester City and their academy system
Despite having been rightly branded as a ‘technically gifted’ wonderkid by The Athletic, the absence of Kobbie Mainoo in the Manchester City youth set-up would be unlikely to faze them.
While the 18-year-old is a huge talent, City simply produce far too many such elite prospects to worry too much about not having been able to sign him.
Case in point: Romeo Lavia.
But the fact that those at Manchester United believe that the teenager could well have joined the treble-winners is a testament to the incredible work that has been done by the club at youth level over the years.
