It has been reported that Manchester City are battling with Chelsea to complete a transfer for Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal.

This comes from The Athletic, as it looks like Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to bolster their midfield after being linked with Declan Rice.

Whether Ethan Nwaneri would be a first-team signing or not for Manchester City remains to be seen, but they have locked horns with Chelsea for his signature.

Manchester City & Chelsea in transfer tug-of-war for Ethan Nwaneri

The highly-rated attacking midfielder made history last season, becoming the youngest player to have ever made an appearance in the Premier League at 15 years and 181 days.

Rio Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel that the Gunners wonderkid is believed to be as talented as Phil Foden at the same age, which is a testament to his unique potential.

Now, it has indeed been claimed that Manchester City are ‘competing’ with Chelsea to sign Ethan Nwaneri.

Manchester United are also in the race to bring in the teenager to Old Trafford, who is unlikely to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, as his schoolboy registration ends this month.

Ethan Nwaneri would be a smart pickup for the future for the Sky Blues

If Manchester City do end up signing Ethan Nwaneri, it is unlikely to create too many headlines due to the young prospect’s age and chances of playing regular first-team football.

However, especially considering how talented the Englishman is, he could become a phenomenon at City in the future and that too, training with some of the best players in the world under Pep Guardiola’s stewardship.

As a result, Nwaneri’s potential addition could be an astute one that may benefit the club in the long-run and save them millions in transfer fees if he fulfils his potential.

A deal seems certainly doable on the surface if City explore this move even further.
