It has been reported that Manchester City could bully Arsenal in the race to complete a transfer for Declan Rice in the summer.

This comes from the Guardian, after it was claimed on Thursday that Pep Guardiola’s side were actively exploring the chance to sign him.

While Declan Rice seemed destined to join Arsenal, Manchester City could now splash the cash to ensure they get a transfer over the line.

Manchester City could bully Arsenal in Declan Rice race

It is interesting that the Englishman has been linked with a move to City after a recent report revealed that the treble winners were ready to part ways with Kalvin Phillips.

If the former Leeds United talisman does leave the Etihad Stadium, Rodri remains the only natural defensive midfielder at the club.

Now, it has been reported that after an £80 million bid from Mikel Arteta’s side to sign Declan Rice was rejected by West Ham, a source mentioned in the report has predicted Manchester City to ‘blow Arsenal out of the water.’

In addition, Pep Guardiola is believed to have spoken to the 24-year-old before the end of the season, with the Sky Blues ramping up their interest to sign him.

Not the best suited to Manchester City

With Rodri expected to start a majority of games, Declan Rice would likely play as a No.8 at not just Arsenal but Manchester City as well.

If both Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva leave, he simply does not profile like either in terms of being a controlling presence blessed with elite technical ability to play such a role.

Sure, Rice would be a brilliant alternative to Rodri and could perhaps even play in defence, being a natural central defender.

But as a central midfielder for this Sky Blues side? The fit simply is not the best.
