It has been reported that Pep Guardiola and Joao Cancelo have had problems in their relationship going back to the 2021/2022 season.
This comes from the Daily Mail, as the pair were famously claimed to have had a breakdown in their dynamic after the World Cup, leading to the Portuguese full-back’s loan move to Bayern Munich in January.
But it seems like Pep Guardiola and Joao Cancelo have had their fair share of disagreements even before that.
Pep Guardiola & Joao Cancelo have had their problems with each other since 2021
Branded as an ‘amazing player’ by Bernardo Silva, it was widely believed that the versatile full-back was born to play under the Manchester City boss.
The 29-year-old was considered by many as the best full-back in the world ever since the 2020/2021 campaign where Guardiola utilised him in an inverted role and allowed him to cement his status as an elite player.
However, it seems like despite Joao Cancelo continuing to operate at the highest level the season after that as well, Pep Guardiola and him had their problems in the 2021/2022 campaign.

In fact, their disagreements started from there on and after the World Cup, it seemed to have reached a place where both parties had to go their separate ways.
It is clear to see that Pep Guardiola has no plans of working with him again
In both matchday squads for the Community Shield and his side’s 3-0 win against Burnley, Pep Guardiola has excluded Joao Cancelo.
Some perhaps suspected that due to the former Juventus technician looking bright in pre-season, perhaps the pair may reunite.
However, that has simply not the case as Guardiola always comes across as a man of principle and is known to be against any player that disrupts the harmony of the dressing room.
It would be best for all parties involved if Joao Cancelo bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium for good at this point.
