It has been reported that Crystal Palace are keen on completing a transfer for Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City.
This comes from the Daily Star, as the £57.2 million (Guardian) man was claimed to be a guaranteed exit from the Etihad Stadium at the end of June.
Now, it seems like Crystal Palace have entered the race as a potential transfer destination for Manchester City stalwart Aymeric Laporte.
Crystal Palace enticed by Aymeric Laporte transfer from Manchester City
Branded as ‘aggressive’ by Eric Garcia via Barça Blaugranes, the former Athletic Bilbao defender fell down to the bottom of City’s pecking order of centre-backs last season.
The 29-year-old made a mere 11 starts in the Premier League, which goes to show that he was clearly unfancied by Pep Guardiola during his side’s treble-winning campaign.
As a result, Crystal Palace are reported to be weighing up an ambitious move for Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City.
With two years left on the Spanish international’s contract, the Sky Blues are demanding a £35 million fee to surrender his services.
However, Palace are currently ‘reluctant’ to agree to City’s demands and instead, are waiting until further down the transfer window before they decide to put in a formal bid to sign him.
Aymeric Laporte deserves better
Without meaning any disrespect to Crystal Palace, a player of the standing of Aymeric Laporte in the game should only leave Manchester City to join another European superpower.
Despite Laporte’s stock not being at its all-time highest to say the least, it is indisputable that he is one of the best centre-backs in the world.
As a result, it would be a shame from the decorated defender’s perspective if he was sold to a team that finished 11th last season, after looking like they could potentially have even been relegated at one point.
While the Eagles are a massive club in English football, the five-time Premier League winner should only be considering a move to the absolute elite.
