Manchester City are no strangers when it comes to loaning players out of the club.
For example, previous transfer windows have seen City loan out players such as James McAtee, Maximo Perrone and Issa Kabore among others in an effort to give certain figures the chance to play regular football.
One player who won’t be stepping foot on a pitch for the foreseeable future in City’s squad, however, is Rodri.
After being forced off the pitch in last weekend’s Premier League match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, it was reported that Rodri had damaged his ACL and will be out of action for the rest of the season.
This has since led to some behind-the-scenes details coming to light regarding how the Blues see the possibility of bringing one of their loaned-out players back to the club as a result of this injury blow.
- Who is Kalvin Phillips? Get to know the midfielder who could leave Man City in the transfer window

Report shares Man City’s stance on Kalvin Phillips amid Rodri injury news
According to a recent report from Give Me Sport claimed that City have no intention of recalling Kalvin Phillips from his season-long loan from Ipswich Town in an effort to help them replace Rodri.
In fact, the report also adds that the Manchester club are actually looking to sell the midfielder on a permanent basis once his loan at Ipswich ends during the next summer transfer window.
How has Phillips fared at Ipswich so far this season?
Since joining Kieran McKenna’s side on his season-long loan last month, Phillips has made three appearances for Ipswich, two in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup.
After completing 71 minutes against Fulham, the midfielder completed the full 90 in Ipswich’s 0-0 draw away at Brighton & Hove Albion.
In that game against the Seagulls, the 28-year-old made three successful tackles, three interceptions and four clearances to help the Tractors keep a clean sheet and secure a point away from home.
Despite that, not only does the claim that City aren’t considering bringing Phillips back from his loan early suggest that they don’t think he could do an effective job for them in Rodri’s absence, but the fact that they apparently want to sell him in the summer suggests that they don’t think he could be good enough to play for them at all.
