Phil Foden is the talk of the town following his two goals and stunning performance for Manchester City against Manchester United – and Richard Dunne gave him the highest possible compliment after the game.
The 23-year-old came in clutch for City at the Etihad, scoring twice in the second-half after Marcus Rashford gave United a surprise lead.
Foden scored one goal by cutting in from the right side, unleashing a fierce drive from the edge of the box, and then added a second after collecting a ball from Julian Alvarez from the right.
Erling Haaland then wrapped things up in injury-time, putting his awful first-half miss firmly behind him.
The praise for Foden has understandably been plentiful, but Dunne gave perhaps the best compliment straight after the game…
Richard Dunne believes Phil Foden is now the ‘ultimate’ star at Manchester City

Dunne appeared yesterday on City’s Matchday Live show on YouTube, and just like the fans, he was left amazed by the performance of Foden against United.
City were having difficulty breaking down United’s low block, and really needed someone to step up.
Foden was that man, with his first goal flying into the top corner from the edge of the area.
He has constantly taken responsibility this season, in a team that is littered with world-class players, and Dunne now believes that Foden is actually the ‘ultimate’ player at the club.
He said: “He’s just a fantastic footballer. When you look at what City are trying to become and develop into, and the values of a City player… he’s a player that’s come through the academy all the way through, and he is the ultimate star at Man City now. Because of the way he holds himself.
“Antony broke away there towards the end and Foden ran 60 yards after him to take the ball off him. that’s what it takes to be the best in the world, and the difference between these two sides is massive.”
Manchester Derby heroics will now change how Phil Foden is viewed
Sunday was the day that Phil Foden announced himself as a truly world-class football player.
There was already some talk before the game about whether he could be put into that category. He himself did not feel he was worthy of the tag.
But surely there can be no doubt now that Foden is a world-class talent.
And what a compliment it is from Dunne that he feels Foden is ‘the ultimate star’ at City now, considering he’s playing with incredible players like Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Rodri.
Realistically, you cannot really praise Foden any higher than to say he’s the ultimate star of the best team in the world.
