Former Etihad stars Micah Richard and Shaun Wright-Phillips were asked for the current Manchester City star they’d both like to have played with the most – and both instantly said Kevin De Bruyne.
The pair were filming a video for the club’s official website, which saw them drive down to Wembley Stadium.
City take on Manchester United on Saturday in the FA Cup final.
And the hope is that City can get the job done to land the second of hopefully three trophies this season.
As part of the build-up, City had Craig Mitch driving down to Wembley from the Etihad Stadium, with Richards in the passenger seat.
Later in the video, they pick up Wright-Phillips.
Towards the end of the video, Mitch starts firing some questions at the pair.
And at one point, he asks them for a City player they would like to have played with the most.
Without hesitation, both of them gave the same answer – Kevin De Bruyne.
Richards said: “He’s one of the greatest City players ever!”
Wright-Phillips added: “Yeah, 100%”.
They might have plumped for Erling Haaland, given the man’s unbelievable goalscoring prowess.
Or perhaps even Sergio Aguero or David Silva, both of whom made colossal contributions in helping City become a dominant force in English football.
But both Richards and Wright-Phillips acknowledge that De Bruyne is a genius.
For a lot of fans, the Belgian is already the greatest player to have ever donned the shirt.
For supporters who have followed City for many years, he may have a little way to go yet before carrying the title of City’s greatest ever player.
But the £55 million signing is undoubtedly well on course.
Given Richards and Wright-Phillips were both right-sided players, it is little wonder they would both have loved to play with De Bruyne.
Arguably, the 31-year-old is at his very best when he’s playing on the right of a three in midfield, as a number eight. At times, he makes things look absolutely effortless.
He therefore would likely have had a lot of link-up with Richards and Wright-Phillips had he played in the same team as them.
