Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that as many as 5 players could get into the Man City XI, ahead of the Manchester Derby.
As the Sky Blues prepare to face United on Saturday afternoon, the popular opinion would remain that most of the hosts’ players would struggle to get into the visitors’ side.
However, it seems Rio Ferdinand thinks almost half the Manchester United side could get into the Man City team, ahead of the much-awaited Manchester Derby.
Well, it’s tough to agree with Ferdinand, based on history, considering most of Pep Guardiola’s players are 4-time Premier League champions.
Furthermore, many of them count as some of the best players in the world.
While the places of Ederson, John Stones, who Pep Guardiola is playing at his ‘best level’, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland remain indisputable based on this season’s form, it must be said that arguments can be made for other players.
As a result, a combined XI would be not be as one-sided as much as it has been in recent memory.
And Rio Ferdinand now mentions the Manchester United stars that could potentially get into the Man City XI.
Rio Ferdinand says 5 Manchester United players could potentially get into the Man City XI
In an interview with the I newspaper, Rio Ferdinand suggested 5 players that could potentially get into the Man City XI.
“On form, you have to say Marcus Rashford would have to be in the team.
“You’ve got to say [Christian] Eriksen would be in with a shout, Bruno [Fernandes] would be in with a shout. Casemiro or Rodri is a massive one in terms of form.”
“The two best holding midfielders in the league. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane would have an argument to get in the team as well, so you could put a good case forward.”
“The fact you can have an argument over four or five players getting into the team, or to have a conversation about it at least, is a step in the right direction.”
Ultimately, some arguments certainly hold weight for Manchester United players getting into a Man City XI.
