Rio Ferdinand now shares who he would rather have in his team – Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe

Rio Ferdinand has given his two cents on whether he would rather have Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe in his team.

In January, Fabio Capello claimed that the Frenchman possesses “more technical quality” and described him as a “better footballer” than Haaland.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic also once stated that Kylian Mbappe is more of a “complete player” than the treble-winner.

Rio Ferdinand reveals whether he would rather have Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe in his team

Whether one prefers Haaland or Mbappe is subjective, much like any debate between two players, such as the constant comparison between Foden and Saka nowadays.

At the end of the day, two great players are being mentioned, regardless of which out of the pair the majority tend to side with as the superior one.

However, Rio Ferdinand has revealed he would rather have Kylian Mbappe in his side over Erling Haaland.

“[Kylian] Mbappe”, he said on TNT Sports.

“They’re all great, there’s no bad or wrong answer here really but Mbappe man. I’d pay every day to watch him train, let alone play in a match because he creates things on his own. I can give him the ball at left-back and he might score.”

“I could give him the ball anywhere on the pitch and he could create something. The other two [Erling Haaland and Harry Kane], not so much.”

“[Erling] Haaland, you play him through from the halfway line and he could carry two centre-halves on his back.”

“I’d take any of them, all three and I’d be quite happy but Mbappe’s got that something different that would make me sit up at night and go, ‘Thank you God for giving me him.’

Erling Haaland could potentially end the debate for the time being if he wins the Champions League this season

Football is preferential and as a result, the decision from Rio Ferdinand to pick Kylian Mbappe over Erling Haaland in his side is fair.

However, if Haaland wins the Champions League once again this season, perhaps many will start siding with him over Mbappe in this endless debate between the duo.

While the PSG talisman is yet to win the competition, the 23-year-old would have won it twice and that too in successive campaigns, if Manchester City do the business again.

Considering only Real Madrid have defended their Champions League crown, if Erling Haaland is at the forefront of doing so for City, a special place in history could be reserved for him and his club.

The same would not be able to be said about Kylian Mbappe unless he matches such an accomplishment down the line.
