Sam Allardyce hails ‘diamond’ Omar Marmoush
The player in question is Omar Marmoush, who has hit the ground running at City since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
In the latest episode of No Tippy Tappy Football, Allardyce briefly spoke about De Bruyne’s City exit at the end of the season, describing him as “elite”.
Allardyce then addressed co-host and City fan Natalie Pike to share how much he likes Marmoush.
“I do really like – I forgot his name, I’m really bad at this, your new Egyptian player,” ” Allardyce said.
Pike replied: “Oh, Marmoush,” to which Allardyce said: “He looks a player him, he looks a goalscorer. They’ve found a diamond in that lad.”
How Omar Marmoush has fared so far at Manchester City
Marmoush didn’t take long to make a name for himself at Manchester City as he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle United just weeks after joining.
The 26-year-old has since doubled his goal tally for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring against Brighton and Leicester in the league along with the decisive goal in the FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth.
Marmoush’s efforts in March saw him awarded City’s Player of the Month accolade, testament to his quality and brilliant way in which he has acclimatised to life at the Etihad Stadium.
Jermaine Beckford recently claimed Marmoush is “the type of player City have been desperate for”, suggesting he’s “the complete package”.
“I thought he was brilliant, absolutely brilliant,” Beckford said after the Newcastle game. “This is the type of player City have been desperate for.
“Grealish is there, Doku is there, both really good players in their own right, but they haven’t got the whole package. They haven’t.
“He’s one of these players who thrives off of the pressure and getting the ball to feet with defenders in front of him.”
