Arthur Vermeeren is now set to leave Royal Antwerp in 2024 – after Manchester City opened talks to sign him.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Arthur Vermeeren? Let’s take a look…

Arthur Vermeeren set for a move in 2024

Well, it was Graeme Bailey who first revealed that Manchester City had made contact with Royal Antwerp regarding a deal to sign the Belgium international.

Vermeeren has continued to shine at Royal Antwerp, winning the Man of the Match award on Wednesday night as the Belgian giants recorded a 3-2 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

The 18-year-old scored the opener after just two minutes.

Now, Romano has claimed that Vermeeren is set to leave Royal Antwerp in 2024 – possibly even in the January transfer window.

The reliable Italian journalist wrote: “Arthur Vermeeren, on fire — goal vs Barca & MOTM Award. 2005 born talent makes top ten players with most minutes played in top leagues.

“Understand he’s set to leave in 2024. Possibly January or July for sure. His lawyer Sebastien Ledure, speaking to top European clubs.”

After scoring against Barcelona, Vermeeren now has two goals and five assists in 28 appearances for Royal Antwerp this season.

Arthur Vermeeren could replace Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City

If the Lier-born midfield maestro does arrive at the Etihad Stadium next month, he could replace Kalvin Phillips.

The England international appeared to wave goodbye to the away section inside the Rajko Mitić Stadium after scoring from the penalty spot in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade.

It came just days after Pep Guardiola admitted he struggles to see Phillips work in his tactical setup – comments that Stuart Pearce could not believe.

It also came shortly after a story from Calciomercato claimed that the 28-year-old has agreed to join Juventus in January.

Therefore, Vermeeren could arrive to replace Phillips at Manchester City if talks with Royal Antwerp go well.
