Micah Richards has said that Leroy Sane should still be at Manchester City now.

The former full-back was talking with Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer about best attacking trios the Premier League has ever seen for Match of the Day.

Sane left City in the summer of 2020 after four seasons at the club.

Sane joined City from Schalke, and made 135 appearances for the club.

He was very much a crowd favourite due to his electric pace and mazy dribbling.

Sane left City having failed to really nail down his place as a starter at the time, and he joined Bayern Munich.

After a couple of decent seasons, Sane is now really thriving at the Allianz Arena – and Richards misses the winger…

The City frontline has been various different combinations over the years.

But it is widely accepted that Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Sane was one of the best.

It was certainly the most exhilarating.

Richards said: “That’s one of my favourite front threes that is. Sane should still be at City now! Sterling is so underrated you know.”

City don’t miss Sane, but fans do

Sane’s exit from City was really interesting at the time.

Many fans weren’t particularly comfortable with it, given the numbers Sane had posted at the club and the fact he was only 24 at the time.

Many felt he had a lot more to give. He was an ‘excellent’ player with such high potential

Seemingly though, Pep Guardiola was comfortable in letting him go, and the club banked a pretty respectable £55 million all in.

Sane has a good relationship with City and the fans and that has led to some longing for his return at points.

It would be very interesting to see him back one day, but maybe it’s unlikely with the recent signing of Jeremy Doku, who has started well.
