It has now been reported that Manchester City are interested in a surprise transfer for Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae.

This comes from Bayern Munich-based journalist Philipp Kessler, who reported about this development on Tuesday.

It seems Manchester City could now look to bolster their centre-back depth by potentially bringing in Kim Min-jae in the summer.

Manchester City could try to land Kim Min-jae transfer

It was recently claimed that Pep Guardiola’s men were ‘speeding things up’ by reaching closer to agreeing a fee to sign another defender in RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

For the longest time, it has been reported that it is the 21-year-old who has been earmarked by the treble-winners as the ideal replacement for the potentially outgoing Aymeric Laporte.

Now, however, a fresh revelation suggests that Manchester City are indeed ‘showing interest’ in the potential arrival of Kim Min-jae.

However, Bayern Munich are in the driver’s seat to get the deal done, despite interest from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United in the South Korean international.

To add to that, the Serie A winner has a £38.6 million release clause that is only valid until 15th July for any potential suitor to try and swoop in for his signature.

Unlikely that Manchester City are even interested

Considering this revelation has emerged from a Bayern Munich-based journalist, it could well be the case that this is a classic case of agent talk as Manchester City have never been linked with Kim Min-jae before.

Furthermore, he is unlikely to know the ins and outs of City’s dealings, as The Athletic journalist Sam Lee reported that the club have their sights on Josko Gvardiol as their ‘main target’, with Pau Torres as a potential alternative.

In addition, it has seemed for a while now that his deal to Bayern is imminent, which are all signs that the Sky Blues have different priorities in the summer transfer market.
