Simon Jordan has slammed the recent criticism of Erling Haaland, saying it is a ridiculous conversation to be questioning the Manchester City striker’s goalscoring prowess.

Haaland scored against Brentford last night to send City just one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League table.

It was his 17th Premier League goal of the season, taking him two clear of Mo Salah at the top of the scoring chart.

It seems strange then, that there has been some criticism of Haaland recently.

The Norwegian spurned a plethora of chances against Chelsea last weekend and also had a pretty uninspiring evening against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

But Jordan has lept to his defence and slammed the fans that have been questioning him…

Jordan was speaking about Haaland earlier today on talkSPORT, following his goal against Brentford on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old has now scored three goals since returning from injury earlier this month, but some people online had been writing Haaland off.

After the Chelsea game especially, quite a lot of people – mostly fans of rival clubs – were piping up about Haaland and suggesting his injury may cause him to struggle.

But Jordan lept to Haaland’s defence, saying: “Anyone that questions whether he’s losing his direction is a simpleton. The guy has scored more goals than anyone has scored in the Premier League from standing still and landing in the Premier League. I just think it’s a ridiculous conversation to be having.

“If Carlsberg made centre-forwards, it would be Erling Haaland!”

Haaland criticism has been ridiculous

When you set such high standards, you are always going to have people on your back when you inevitably fall slightly below them.

The criticism and questioning of Haaland recently has been very strange.

In a couple of games, it just hasn’t happened for him. It is something that happens to all strikers, even world-class ones like City’s number nine.

Haaland has just come back from injury and has also had a tough time personally recently. There are factors behind why he hasn’t been firing on all cylinders, but these things will never matter to rival fans who are sadly just waiting for any opportunity to criticise.
