Manchester City are rather familiar when it comes to selling some of their big-name players.

For example, in this summer transfer window, City saw Julian Alvarez wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium to join Atletico Madrid in a deal worth a reported fee of £81m according to BBC Sport.

Some of the other big-name players the Manchester club have sold in recent years include Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus and Joao Cancelo.

Now though, another significant former City star could look to be on his way back to Manchester in the coming days, but not for a return to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Steve Sidwell backs Raheem Sterling to shine if he joins Man United

Earlier this week, it was reported by The Telegraph that Manchester United have opened talks to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea, just two years after he joined the West London club from City.

This then led to Steve Sidwell having this to say about how Sterling could fare for the Red Devils in a recent video shared on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel.

He said: “Do you know what, the thing is with Manchester United and years have gone by and it’s been proven with a lot of players, wearing that Man United shirt, is a heavy shirt to wear and there’s been certain players that’s not stepped up to the plate, not delivered Old Trafford.

“I think Raheem Sterling going there, I think he can.

“You see what he’s won in the clubs that he’s played for, he could go in there straight away and fit in, I think, with ease.”

Sterling would offer United a top attacking threat

Sidwell isn’t the only pundit and former top-flight player to back this potential move to Old Trafford for the former City winger, as Troy Deeney recently claimed that Sterling is better than any of United’s current attacking options.

Between 2015 and 2022, Sterling featured in 339 games for City across all competitions, bagging 131 goals, delivering 73 assists and winning multiple domestic trophies in the process.

In his two years at Stamford Bridge, the Englishman has found the back of the net 19 times and provided 12 assists in 81 games.

With his experience and attacking talent in mind, it’s understandable why Sidwell reckons a move to United would not phase Sterling.
