Manchester City are been linked with a move for Dani Olmo – but there is one thing that concerns some members of the club’s hierarchy.

Olmo has starred for Spain at Euro 2024 and on Tuesday night, he scored a lovely goal against France to send them to the final.

His effort left Micah Richards and Alan Shearer very impressed. Shearer said that he had shown ‘unbelievable’ balance to score in the way he did, and Olmo surely now stands a good chance of starting against either England or the Netherlands after such a great all-round display against the French.

Olmo is a player City appreciate.

He has been at RB Leipzig since 2020 and has been one of their best performers over the last few years.

There is a feeling that he could be set to make a move this summer, with the player having a £51 million release clause. It remains to be seen if City are his next club, but currently, there is one thing that some board members at the Etihad are slightly concerned about.

Olmo is a target for City, but at the moment there may not be room for him.

He is an attacking midfielder, who operates best in the same positions as Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

But De Bruyne only has a year left on his contract and is now 33 years old. City will surely be thinking about his replacement.

Olmo could be a fine addition for City, as he is very technical and also someone who works his socks off. these are two things were know Pep Guardiola really appreciates in a player.

But it is always important for clubs to bring in players who are durable, as well as talented.

Give Me Sport have reported that some members of the City hierarchy do have one reservation about Olmo, which is his injury record.

As per Transfermarkt, Olmo missed 29 games last term for club and country, picking up three injuries. In 2022/23, he picked up two injuries causing him to miss 20 matches and the season before that, he had four injuries and missed 19 games.

But GMS do say that despite that, City are still ‘seriously considering’ triggering his release clause soon.

Olmo injury record is cause for concern

So City are looking at Olmo’s injury record as a possible area of concern.

Undoubtedly, it is something that should make the club think twice about a swoop this summer.

68 games missed for club and country over the last three seasons is actually far from ideal.

It is an underrated quality for a player to always be available to their manager. £51 million now feels like it would be a lot to pay, for a player who is seemingly a little fragile.

It is a shame, because we are seeing what a brilliant player Olmo is at the Euros. But potentially he might just be too much of a risk. Pep tends to work with a small squad and therefore needs players who are going to be available a lot of the time.
