It has been reported that Southampton are targeting a transfer for Manchester City youngster Carlos Borges.

The Saints were reportedly considering a move for the Portuguese talent in January and since then, links have died down.

Quite clearly, the keenness shown by Southampton was not just paper talk as a report in the Athletic has reported that they remain interested in a transfer involving Manchester City talent Carlos Borges in the summer.

The 19-year-old is ripping things apart for the Sky Blues’ U-21s side, bagging an impressive 23 goals and 15 assists in 27 in across all competitions this season.

Borges, a winger by trade is considered as one of the most talented young players from City’s enviable academy, with youth scout Jacek Kulig likening him to Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.

A new report has emerged which claims that Southampton scouts have an interest in a transfer for Manchester City wideman Carlos Borges and have ‘closely monitored’ his progress.

Furthermore, it has been mentioned that the teenager himself would be open to a switch, as he is keen on playing regular first-team football.

A move to a better side would be ideal

Sure, Southampton have proven to be an excellent club to develop Romeo Lavia and Gavin Bazunu, and the same could be the case with Carlos Borges if he leaves Manchester City to join them either in a permanent transfer or on loan.

But it is key to note that Ruben Selles’ side could suffer relegation and even if they manage not to, a switch to a superior side where the teenager can play in a more free-flowing side would perhaps be more beneficial to his progress.

Only time will tell what destiny holds for the bright prospect, as it seems like City are producing so many gems out wide such as Adedire Mebude, who scored a splendid goal against Sweden U-21s.
