‘Special’ £43m Manchester City player now ‘highly unlikely’ to leave the Etihad this summer

One of Pep Guardiola’s most important and trusted players is set to stay at the club for another season.

It has been a relatively uneventful summer at Manchester City regarding transfers so far.

So far, Sergio Gomez is the only player from last season’s first team to depart. The full-back completed a move back to Spain with Real Sociedad.

In recent weeks, there has been plenty of speculation over the likes of Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne, with both players targets for the Saudi Pro League.

The duo remain City players for now, and fans will hope that stays the case beyond the summer window.

But one player who hasn’t had as many inches in the gossip columns as expected this summer, is Bernardo Silva.

Last summer, Bernardo Silva was expected to move on from Manchester City, but he ended up staying put and signing a new contract.

That contract supposedly included a £50 million release clause.

There was a bit of talk about Bernardo towards the end of the 2023/24 season, and there was one claim that the player wanted his future resolved by the end of Euro 2024.

The Euros are now over, and Bernardo remains a City player and there have hardly been any reports of clubs being interested in signing him.

But there was a brief line from Football Transfers earlier this week.

They claim that Bernardo is now highly unlikely to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer. Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have long-term interest in the player. But the PSG are the only realistic option for him, and they currently have ‘other priorities’.

Lack of Bernardo Silva transfer interest is baffling

It has been remarkable to see how little speculation there has been about Bernardo this summer.

We are talking about one of the best players in the world, and someone Guardiola previously called ‘one of the best players I’ve ever seen in my life’. He also called him ‘a special footballer’.

Clubs should be absolutely clamouring to sign the Portugal international, who cost City £43 million back in 2017.

But for some reason, interest has not really been forthcoming. At least publicly anyway.

There is obviously still a lot of time left in the window for clubs to come calling. But seemingly the feeling at the moment is that Bernardo will be sticking around and that would simply be a massive boost.
