‘Stands out’: Elano really impressed with how £63m Man City player has developed under Pep Guardiola

Former Manchester City midfielder Elano has praised Rodri for his development and recent form at the club under Pep Guardiola.

The Brazilian recently did an interview with the club, and the second part of it has just been released in the November edition of the digital magazine.

This season, Rodri has been one of City’s best players once again. His importance to the team was further emphasised when City failed to win any of their three games when he was suspended.

Rodri got sent off against Nottingham Forest, causing him to miss games against Wolves, Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup and Arsenal.

Since returning to the side, City have returned to winning ways.

Concerningly though, £63 million star Rodri is currently one booking away from another suspension. So he is walking a tightrope and will do well to avoid another ban.

City fans would hate to see him unavailable again given how good a player he is.

Elano has been speaking a bit about Rodri in City’s digital magazine for November.

In his eyes, the Spaniard is a truly outstanding footballer. On his development under Pep Guardiola in recent seasons, he said: “You look at the athletes, you look at someone like Rodri. He’s a guy who stands out, stood out last season and is already off to a good start – but he improves under Pep.”

Rodri – whom Nedum Onuonha chose as his ultimate warrior this week – has been appreciated by Pep since the moment he signed for the club from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

He actually did struggle a little in his first term at the Etihad.

But from season two onwards, Rodri has just been getting better and better. Last term he was imperious as City won an historic Treble and it’s been more of the same this season when he’s played.

Rodri is some player – and he can still get better

Rodri is just immense. Even he himself didn’t envisage becoming as good as he currently is.

We have seen this season just how important he is to this team. He’s utterly dominant in midfield, and we see how much more difficult things become when he’s not out there.

It’s remarkable to think he is still only 27. Arguably, he is only now just entering his prime years.

He’s already in the conversation for being one of the best holding midfielders of all-time. Surely when he comes to hang up his boots, there’s a very good chance people will be saying he is the best.

It will be a challenge for him to improve his current level, since it is so high. But few would bet against him doing it while Pep is his manager.
