“Straight away”… Darren Bent admits he always knew “unbelievable” Manchester City 28-year-old would be a star

Darren Bent has been speaking about Manchester City No.10 Jack Grealish and his early days at Aston Villa.

The 39-year-old spoke about the 28-year-old on the Filthy Fellas podcast.

So, what did Darren Bent say about Jack Grealish? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the man from Tooting claims it was always evident that the England international would become a star – even in his first training session at Aston Villa.

Bent said: “Even as a young kid he was unbelievable. You could see straight away. I was in his very first training session at Villa and he was quite quiet, but still had the shinpads down to his ankles. Unbelievable.”

Grealish actually played three games alongside the talkSPORT pundit – who was shocked by the sale of Cole Palmer – at Aston Villa, winning two and losing the other before Bent eventually left for Derby County in 2015.

If the man with 12 caps for England really did think the Birmingham-born sensation would become a superstar back then, he was spot on.

Since leaving Villa Park, Grealish has become the first £100m British footballer, while he can also call himself a two-time Premier League winner, who also boasts a UEFA Champions League and FA Cup medal.

The Manchester City No.10 also has a UEFA Super Cup to his name.

Manchester City could use Jack Grealish centrally against Liverpool

So far this season, the spotlight has been on Grealish after the arrival of Jeremy Doku – Chris Sutton even thinks the Englishman is in “a bit of bother” because of the Belgian.

While the 21-year-old is certainly providing a fierce threat out on the left wing, Pep Guardiola could squeeze both into the same starting XI against Liverpool on Saturday if Erling Haaland is ruled out.

Without the Norwegian, Julian Alvarez could play as the main striker, with Grealish taking the Argentine’s No.10 role and Doku starting on the left.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Guardiola’s press conference, as more details on injuries to Haaland and John Stones should emerge.
