Manchester City have enjoyed some major successes during Pep Guardiola’s reign at the club.

For example, as well as winning six Premier League trophies, City became the first team to win four titles in a row.

As well as that, Guardiola delivered the Manchester club their first Champions League title and has seen his side break numerous records during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

This highlights the strength of the squad the Catalan has built and the players he’s used to help City become the dominant force they are now.

With the Blues now on the hunt to pick up another league title, a pundit and former City manager has pinpointed one particular figure from the current squad he thinks is one of the standout players in the entire Premier League.

Stuart Pearce names Bernardo Silva as a ‘role model’ player

While discussing some of the best midfielders in Premier League history, Stuart Pearce said this on talkSPORT (15/10 17:47) about Bernardo Silva.

He said: “Now I go and watch the Premier League and watch Bernardo Silva and he’s my favourite player.

“Because he does everything right, he controls it right, he draws players to him, he doesn’t try to take players on, he rolls it to his mate. He gives him the best possible ball in the best possible way.

“He’s just incredible. He would be my role model if I was a young midfield player. I would say look at him. They play him out on the wing and you think he can’t go past anyone and he goes past people. Amazing.”

Oscar Bobb also sees Silva as a role model

Pearce isn’t the only person to highlight the Portuguese international as a role model, as Oscar Bobb said this about Silva when asked which City player he looks up to the most back in March.

He said: “I think Bernardo. He’s a player I want to play like and I think his quality is crazy and I just want to learn from him.”

In addition to that, Eduardo Camavinga named Silva as the best player he’s faced off against in his career.

City paid £43m to sign Silva from Monaco back in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 364 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, which is more than any other player to have featured for Guardiola throughout his managerial career.

Across those 364 games, the 30-year-old has scored 67 goals and provided 69 assists for City, playing a vital role in their numerous trophy successes.

With all of that in mind, it shouldn’t surprise too many City supporters to hear that Pearce is a big fan of Silva.
