Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 3-1 in the Champions League last night – and Nicolas Seiwald has admitted he and his teammates struggled to deal with Phil Foden in particular.
Pep Guardiola’s side are two wins from two now, as they seek to defend their title.
Foden got City going in the first-half with a great first time finish from a Rico Lewis cross.
But Leipzig hit back very quickly after the break through Lois Openda.
City then had a plethora of chances but were unable to find a breakthrough until the introduction of Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine scored a ‘magical’ goal, before then setting up Jeremy Doku to wrap the game up.
It was, overall, a solid performance from City.
And a particularly good night for Foden…
Nicolas Seiwald admits RB Leipzig struggled to deal with Manchester City star Phil Foden
Foden was really good last night.

He played as a left side number eight, and was excellent picked the ball up between the lines.
And Leipzig defensive midfielder Seiwald admitted after the game that they simply could not deal with his movement.
He said (Leipzig official): “It was really hard to defend against Phil Foden, in particular. His movement off the ball was excellent – he tried to get in behind a lot but also came deep to pick up the ball. He’s also extremely quick off the mark and technically sublime.”
Foden scored his second goal of the season at the Red Bull Arena.
Foden looking fantastic in the middle
Foden operating in this number eight central role really does suit him down to a tee.

He is just so good at find the spaces and getting the ball on the half-turn.
These comments from Seiwald say it all. He is just so difficult to pick up.
It just shows the intelligence of Foden.
Hopefully, he can keep playing in this role and developing his game further.
