Pat Nevin has now claimed that Pep Guardiola sold a potential Manchester City legend in Cole Palmer.
The 60-year-old made the comment when speaking to the BBC.
So, what was said about Cole Palmer and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Nevin has now admitted his shock at Manchester City’s decision to sell the 21-year-old.
As you will know, the Citizens agreed to sell Palmer to Chelsea in a £42.5m deal on transfer deadline day.
It was a surprise move by Manchester City, as the England Under-21 international had enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with a goal against Arsenal in the FA Community Shield, as well as a strike against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup win.
Speaking about Palmer, Nevin said: “The loss of Gundogan feels even more serious now and the surprise ejection of Cole Palmer, a player I thought could grow into a City giant, but was offloaded to help balance the books, looks questionable in hindsight.”

While the Wythenshawe-born forward is a real talent, we feel this is slightly over the top.
Manchester City will be fine without Cole Palmer
Of course, there is no getting away from the fact that Palmer has started well at Stamford Bridge – some Chelsea fans even claimed that Manchester City were “robbed” by Todd Boehly.
However, nobody was highlighting the sale as a “questionable” moment before Manchester City suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League for the first time since December 2018 on Sunday.

Admittedly, successive defeats in the Premier League is a shock development for Manchester City under Guardiola, although it feels as if the media are making a mountain out of a molehill by suggesting that Palmer’s departure is a key factor behind these poor results.
If the Citizens return to winning ways following the international break, many will surely go back to forgetting about the decision to sell Palmer – as was the case after Manchester City won their opening six Premier League games this season.
