Sverre Nypan has already named his ‘dream’ club and it’s not Manchester City

Manchester City are close to signing Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg.

The Norway U21 international has ignored interest from the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa in preference of a move to the Etihad Stadium, although Pep Guardiola will not be able to use the 18-year-old straight away as Hugo Viana intends to find an initial loan switch.

Manchester City will pay Rosenborg £12.5m for Nypan – a record sale for a Norwegian club.

In that respect, this is an idyllic moment for the teenager as he makes national history, but he has previously labelled a different club as his “dream” move.

Sverre Nypan actually said Manchester United are his “dream” club

Ironically, the Trondheim-born talent selected Manchester United when asked to name his dream club in July 2024.

Nypan told United Norway: “It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United.

“I am aware United has shown some interest, but I’m quite adamant that I don’t want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead.”

Manchester United have watched Nypan since he was 16 years of age, so after hearing him name the Red Devils as his ideal club, it must be tough for those at Old Trafford to see him move to Manchester City instead.

Rayan Cherki is also not joining his “dream” side

Manchester City have also signed Rayan Cherki from Lyon this summer, who described his move to the Etihad Stadium as a “dream” transfer.

However, it was not the dream move for the France international.

Cherki spoke at length about Real Madrid back in 2021, telling Onze Mondial: “We all know that my dream club is Real Madrid. Joining the biggest club in the world would be wonderful. That’s the perfect route, the one I have in mind. I get up every morning for that, to achieve my dreams.”

Therefore, if the Spanish giants make a bid for the Frenchman later down the line, it could well turn his head.
