Pep Guardiola is about to enter the final year of his contract at Manchester City.

After guiding the Blues to their sixth Premier League trophy in seven years at the end of their previous season, the 53-year-old is now gearing up to take on his ninth campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

With 472 games under his belt as City’s manager, the Spaniard has won multiple domestic and European trophies.

Now though, one pundit has shared his thoughts about the prolific City manager and one particular job he’d love to see Guardiola take.

Scott Minto says Pep Guardiola would be his first choice to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager

While assessing who could be the one to replace Gareth Southgate as the England manager, Scott Minto had this to say in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel.

He said: “My favourite would be, pretty much everybody’s favourite, would be Pep Guardiola.

“Now obviously he’s got a year left on his Manchester City contract, Manchester City fans are all shouting saying how dare you.

“We don’t know what he’s doing, but my first phone call, speed dial one, would be to Pep and say look, in a year’s time, would you be interested? And Pep, I think would be very much a yes or no.

“So I think you’d know pretty, pretty soon.

“He’s the best manager in the world and for me yes, of course, I would prefer an English manager but it doesn’t have to be, just get the best person for the job. Pep’s number one.”

Would Guardiola leave City to manage England?

Having been so successful during his extensive time in England, coaching some of the best players in Europe, it comes as no surprise that Minto would love to see Guardiola replace Southgate and become the next England manager.

However, with the City boss previously stating that he wouldn’t take the England job as he thinks international sides should only hire managers from their countries, this may put a spanner in the works if the FA want to make an approach to Guardiola about potentially filling the position anytime soon.
