Manchester City have once again seen a handful of players make moves in and out of the club during this summer transfer window.

Specifically, in addition to securing a deal to sign Savinho from Troyes, City have seen the likes of Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle leave the club on permanent moves.

In the final month of the summer window, the Manchester club could be about to be involved in one of the biggest deals of the entire transfer period, which one pundit has now shared his thoughts on.

Andy Townsend reacts to reported transfer fee for Julian Alvarez

After it was recently reported that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth €95m (£82m) to sign Julian Alvarez, Andy Townsend shared his reaction to this news on talkSPORT (6/8 09:08).

He said: “That is a lot of money, I think, for Julian Alvarez, a good player.

“Whenever you make a sub, if you’ve got someone coming off the bench you want them to have an impact, he usually does.

“But he wants to play on a more regular basis so good luck to him.

On the subject of whether City would be able to cope without the Argentine in their squad, Townsend added this.

“City have always got great players who can play in other areas and can rotate and they’ve been without [Erling] Haaland before and they’ve coped but usually with Alvarez.

“We’ll see, but it’s a lot of money, I don’t think you can turn that down.”

Selling Alvarez could be a financial masterstroke from City

Having only paid £14m to sign the striker back in 2022, selling him for this reported fee would undeniably be a very impressive deal for City from a financial point of view.

During his two seasons at the Etihad Stadium, Alvarez has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in 103 appearances.

Even though he appeared in 54 games across all competitions last season, the 24-year-old only started 39 of them, which he ultimately shared his frustrations about fairly recently.

Therefore, for City to sell a player who isn’t a certified starter for significantly more than the fee they paid for him, would be a great bit of business from the club.
