Phil Foden was Manchester City’s star performer throughout the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Appearing in 35 of City’s 38 league games, the 24-year-old scored 19 goals and delivered eight assists.
Having played a big role in seeing Pep Guardiola’s side become the first team to win four consecutive league trophies, the Englishman was named the Premier League’s Player of the Season.
Despite that, a pundit has now claimed that one player who left the Etihad Stadium in recent memory is actually better than Foden.

Jason Cundy claims Cole Palmer is better than Phil Foden
In a recent video uploaded on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Jason Cundy had this to say about Cole Palmer and how he compares to Foden.
He said: “He has surprised everyone, no one saw this Cole Palmer, I’m going to put Pep in there as well because he has absolutely exceeded any expectations and doubled it.
“What he did at Chelsea last season was quite incredible, he’s a superstar boy, he’s an absolute talent and I get why Man City let him go and I get why he wanted to leave because he wasn’t going to get in City’s team, they had Foden.
“But you look at the Euros, what he did, Foden, and what Palmer did, he had a big impact. Foden was outstanding last season and I understand why he left but we have got an absolute superstar.
Cundy was then asked who he would rather have in his team out of Palmer and Foden, to which he said this in response.
He said: “Right now, Palmer, he’s not even started this kid, he is a super talent, and he’s got such a laidback like really dry sense of humour. There’s not much going on until he gets the ball at his feet, he’s a superstar.”
Foden has done what Palmer couldn’t
With Palmer scoring 25 goals and delivering 15 assists in 45 appearances across his debut season at Chelsea, who he joined from City in the 2023 summer transfer window, it’s understandable why Cundy thinks so highly of the 21-year-old.
In fact, it was recently reported that the winger is set to get a significant pay rise following his impressive debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
As well as that, the former City youngster bagged England’s only goal in the final of the 2024 European Championship against Spain, whereas Foden didn’t deliver one goal contribution despite starting all seven games in the tournament.
However, with Foden doing what Palmer was unable to during his time at the Manchester club by becoming a regular and pivotal figure in Guardiola’s side despite the other top-class players in the squad, we feel that although Palmer had an impressive first season at Chelsea, Foden is superior.
