Joe Cole has backed Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland to finish as the top scorer in the Champions League this season.

In an interview with the DR Sports YouTube channel, the well-known pundit was quizzed about which player he believes is set to score the most goals in Europe’s elite competition.

Just like in the 2022/2023 campaign, Joe Cole thinks Erling Haaland will come out on top.

Joe Cole predicts Erling Haaland to finish as the top scorer in the Champions League once again

Branded as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, the £51.2 million (Eurosport) man bagged 12 goals in the competition last season, ending up on top of the goalscoring charts, with Mohamed Salah (eight goals) finishing in second place.

So far, Haaland has only registered two goals in three games in Europe, which came in the form of a brilliant brace against Young Boys.

Once again, Erling Haaland is expected to outscore his contemporaries in the current edition of the Champions League by Joe Cole.

“That’s easy. One man, isn’t it? The big man, Haaland. He’ll get it”, he said.

Erling Haaland has a record to be proud of in Europe

It is not a surprise that arguably the most devastating striker in the world in Erling Haaland was backed by Joe Cole to do the business in the Champions League once again.

As shared by TNT Sports, the Norwegian hitman is already in and amongst the top 20 top scorers in the competition’s history (37 goals in 33 appearances) at just 23 years of age.

Be it at RB Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City, Haaland has always been extremely prolific in Europe.

With the Sky Blues coming off the back of a treble-winning season and Haaland only expected to further hone his craft under Guardiola, not many would doubt his goalscoring credentials in the tournament anytime soon.
