‘That’s embarrassing’… Ally McCoist left baffled by what happened with £51m Man City star at half-time

Ally McCoist couldn’t quite believe that a BSC Young Boys player asked Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for his shirt at half-time tonight.

City have secured qualification to the last 16 after a convincing victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola made several changes to the side that crushed Bournemouth 6-1 on Saturday, with the likes of Rodri and Bernardo Silva being rested.

£51 million superstar Erling Haaland grabbed two goals, either side of a lovely goal from Phil Foden, who really impressed TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand.

Haaland took his tally to 15 goals across all competitions for the season with his brace.

Something rather strange happened at half-time when a Young Boys player asked for the striker’s shirt – which left TNT commentator Ally McCoist baffled.

TNT Sports showed a clip of Haaland heading towards the tunnel just after the referee had blown his whistle for half-time.

They also played the audio, and it appeared that Mohamed Camara was asking the Norwegian for his shirt.

Haaland did oblige, but appeared to be a little confused by the request, seemingly saying ‘You cannot do this’.

One wonders if the response from Haaland was because of a tangle the pair had in the first-half, which ended with Haaland against the advertising boards.

There didn’t appear to be anything in it at the time, with Camara helping him to his feet.

At the start of the second-half, TNT commentator Darren Fletcher then asked McCoist for his verdict on Camara’s request for Haaland’s shirt.

The Scot was left absolutely bemused, saying: “100% not having it. Is that clear? That’s embarrassing, I’m not having that at all Fletch, not having it at all mate.”

Strange from Camara, it’s not a great look

One wonders what Young Boys’ manager Raphael Wicky would have made of this had he seen it. He didn’t see it when it happened, after already going down the tunnel.

It is not really a very good look to be asking for an opponent’s shirt when your team is 2-0 down.

Clearly though, Camara has a huge amount of respect for Haaland and simply didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to get his shirt.

Many players are going to be wanting his shirts throughout his career.

It was just a little unusual for Camara to ask at half-time, and it certainly wasn’t something Haaland was expecting.
