Chris Sutton has made his prediction ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster clash between Manchester City and Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Celtic goalscorer predicted the scoreline on BBC Sport, reflecting on the Sky Blues’ emphatic 4-0 victory against Real Madrid.
As Manchester City have a chance to officially be crowned as Premier League champions against Chelsea, Chris Sutton has made quite an interesting prediction.
Chris Sutton makes Manchester City vs Chelsea prediction
Wayne Rooney was proven right as he predicted Pep Guardiola’s men to ‘crush’ Carlo Ancelotti’s side in what was one of the most dominant displays in Champions League history.
If City were fancied to win the treble before the tie, their scintillating performance and the result has convinced many that this set of players and the manager are set to etch their names into the history books.
As Manchester City could take their first step towards the treble by beating Chelsea, Chris Sutton certainly expects them to do so, as his prediction is that the hosts will win 5-0 on the night.

“I was at [the] Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and Manchester City’s performance levels against Real Madrid were just amazing. I was expecting City to dominate the ball and territory but I thought Madrid would carry a threat at times and they really didn’t.”
Chris Sutton further elaborated why his prediction sees Manchester City tearing Chelsea to shreds, saying, “City could be crowned champions on Saturday if Arsenal lose at Forest but they are going to want to go out and smash Chelsea, regardless of whether they need to win this game to seal a hat-trick of titles.”
“That’s what I think will happen, too. From what I have seen of Chelsea, they don’t have an identity, or much of a plan. They have got some very good individual players but they are not a team and there are times when they look like a mess.”
“City will make some changes and bring in people like Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez, but they will still win easily.”
Manchester City could well make it a cricket score against the Blues
While Chelsea fans will likely frown at the prediction made by Chris Sutton, it’s fair to say that Manchester City are simply that brilliant a side that they could obliterate any opponent in world football.
Pep Guardiola and Co. have scored three or more goals against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid this season, which highlights the strength of this side.
With the added motivation of wrapping up their three-peat coupled with Chelsea having their worst-ever season in the Premier League era, it could get ugly for the visitors.
