Pat Nevin has said that Chelsea starlet Cole Palmer reminds him of a young Kevin De Bruyne.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the pundit made this lofty comparison after having witnessed the Englishman look the part during his start to life at Stamford Bridge.

So much so that in Cole Palmer, Pat Nevin sees the second coming of Kevin De Bruyne.

Cole Palmer says Cole Palmer is like a young Kevin De Bruyne

Branded as ‘some player’ by Joleon Lescott, the 21-year-old seemed like Manchester City’s most exciting youth prospect since Phil Foden.

Having shone in limited appearances for the first-team, the Wythenshawe-born attacker seemed like he could become the heir to Riyad Mahrez’s throne one day.

But as Cole Palmer decided to leave his boyhood club to sign for Chelsea, Pat Nevin believes he looks like a young Kevin De Bruyne.

“There are rays of hope, however. The brightest is Cole Palmer. I was wary of saying it out loud before but, watching him at the Bridge once again, I am convinced this lad could be world-class very soon”, he said.

“He is the closest I have seen to a young Kevin De Bruyne for a very long time.”

Cole Palmer is magnificent but that is a bizarre comparison

While Cole Palmer could perhaps operate in a similar right-sided attacking midfield role to Kevin De Bruyne but that does not make the pair similar in any way, shape or form, which makes this quite a strange take from Pat Nevin.

The youngster lacks De Bruyne’s unstoppable ball-carrying ability, remarkable passing range and phenomenal final ball to be viewed as a younger version of him.

Cole Palmer is far more similar to Riyad Mahrez, except for the fact that he even seems comfortable as an attacking midfielder.

Whatever said and done, Palmer is a stunning young player and is likely to head right to the top.
