‘The intelligence’: £75,000-a-week player Manchester City sold this summer impresses… again

Cole Palmer is one of the best young players in England, so when Manchester City sold him to Chelsea in the summer transfer window, I was disappointed.

Of course, Cole Palmer himself wanted to leave.

It was not as if Manchester City forced him to go.

Cole Palmer was a rising star at Manchester City

But, still, I could not help but feel disappointed that Palmer would not get to work with Pep Guardiola, grow at Manchester City and become a star.

Just like Phil Foden has.

Palmer, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, did not always play regularly for City, but whenever he came on to the pitch for the Citizens, he made an impact and impressed.

City manager Pep Guardiola himself once described Palmer as “special”, and former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was “shocked” when he heard the news that the Citizens had decided to sell him to Chelsea.

We all know just good Palmer is and the talent he has, so there is no surprise that he has started his life at Chelsea strongly.

Chelsea have not been in great form so far this season, but there have been some promising signs of late.

Like the win against Fulham in the London derby on Monday.

Chelsea won 2-0.

Palmer started for Chelsea in the Premier League game.

The £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) 21-year-old was deployed on the right of a front-three in a 4-3-3 formation.

Cole Palmer impresses for Chelsea… again

The English youngster took two shots and one was on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 81.3%, took 48 touches, made two interceptions, and put in one cross.

Palmer’s performance has been hailed in the media.

Football.London has rated Palmer’s display 7 out of 10 and noted: “The deadline day signing made his first Premier League start for Chelsea and featured predominantly on the right of a front three.

“The 21-year-old was again proved his ability to keep possession and find space with the ball, and provided the intelligence Chelsea require with his movement.

“Played an important pass to spark Armando Broja’s goal.”

The London Evening Standard also gave the Chelsea attacker 7 out of 10 and observed that he was “very tidy in possession and set up Broja’s goal”.

This was Palmer’s second competitive start for Chelsea since his move from City in the summer transfer window in a £40 million deal.

The youngster started for the Blues against Brighton and Hove Albion in the EFL Cup last week.

The 21-year-old provided the assist for the only goal of the match and was hailed by some Chelsea fans on social media.
