Manchester City youngster Oscar Bobb has revealed what Pep Guardiola asked him to do against Newcastle United.
The Norwegian attacker gave an insight into Guardiola’s instruction to him before bringing him on against the Magpies while speaking to TNT Sports (13/01/2024), as he managed to score a sublime winner.
Goals from Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Oscar Bobb resulted in City earning a statement result at St. James’ Park.
What Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola told Oscar Bobb to do against Newcastle
After the Sky Blues’ comeback victory, Kevin De Bruyne described the youngster’s run as “amazing” as well as his touch and dribbling as “top.”
Paul Dickov hailed the 20-year-old’s crafty piece of skill for his strike as “top, top natural ability.”
During his post-match interview, Oscar Bobb revealed that Pep Guardiola told him to get a goal for Manchester City against Newcastle.

“Amazing feeling. Just watching from the bench, it was such a high-tempo match and when I got the shout that I was coming on, the manager told me, I was…well, the manager told me, ‘go on and score.’ So, yeah, thankfully, I could”, he told TNT Sports.
Pep Guardiola showed a lot of faith in the youngster by bringing him on
Considering how key it was for Manchester City to beat Newcastle on Saturday, the fact that Pep Guardiola even brought Oscar Bobb on proves how much he trusts his ability.
Especially considering the silky technician replaced Jeremy Doku, who would have potentially been a huge threat against tired legs during the latter stages of the game and remains the club’s most in-form winger.
However, Pep Guardiola backed the teenager to have an impact from the left flank and the latter delivered and that too in front of one of the most hostile stadiums in English football.
If Manchester City end up winning the Premier League goal, Oscar Bobb’s strike may be looked back upon as a pivotal moment of the season, much like Raheem Sterling’s last-gasp winner against Southampton during the 2017/2018 season.
