Phil Foden has said that while the attackers at Manchester City often get credit, they notably have the best defence in the world.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the Englishman gave his two cents on a key reason behind City’s sustained dominance.

Phil Foden believes it is the elite defence at Manchester City that separates them from the rest.

To add to that, the Sky Blues have added Josko Gvardiol to the mix, who a defender of Kyle Walker’s standing in the game has branded as ‘class.’

Last season, it was the solidity at the back that was crucial in Pep Guardiola’s men reviving their campaign and winning the treble.

Phil Foden has now said that the defence at Manchester City perhaps does not get the credit it deserves and their reliability has been imperative in their consistent triumphs over the years.

“A lot of strikers get the credit in this team but we’ve got the best defenders in the world. The defenders are the reason we’ve won so many things. We’ve won things because of how hard we work off the ball, chasing back for each other, filling in.”

Phil Foden is spot on about the defence

Phil Foden has hit the nail on the head, especially about the current Manchester City defence.

Against elite opposition such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the Champions League last season in particular, it took defensive masterclasses of the highest order for the Sky Blues to come out on top.

While City have always been a nightmare to tame going forward, it is their backline, both on and off the back that allow them to control games at the highest level. So much so that several clubs seem to be open to the ideal of also now lining up with three or even four centre-backs after Guardiola’s tactical shift.
